Friday, March 01, 2002 Hatred for the West is more widespread than we think September 11 and the war against terror revealed just how much many Muslims hate America. But what we fail to realise is that the hatred for America and, by extension, for the Western culture is just as widespread among Christians in developing countries. In their view, America is the empire of evil, with Britain its sidekick. The latest I heard today is that Americans caused the war in Bosnia. Former Gulf war servicemen, so runs the theory, would have killed the first Muslims in Bosnia, causing a retribution strike that then led to the war. This from a well-educated Ghanaian who is more Catholic than the Pope himself -- hardly the result of Saudi propaganda. I’ll run the risk of sounding like a brainless ‘no global’, but I think we need to look into the roots of this hatred and address them fast. posted by Carla Passino at 8:49 AM Thursday, February 28, 2002 Italian conflict of interest finally solved…in favour of the Prime Minister, of course! Once again Silvio Berlusconi manages to pass a Bill which works in his favour. Italy’s resolution to the conflict of interest, voted last night in a heated session at the Camera dei Deputati, forbids you to become Prime Minister if you manage a corner shop, but lets you do it if you own three television channels, a national newspaper, a magazine publishing company, a book publishing company and the country’s largest advertising agency. Anyone sees anything wrong in this? posted by Carla Passino at 8:58 AM |
